In early June, Modern’s Todd Carroll and Craig Johnson teamed up with Martin Crane donating their time to install the two granite columns of Firehouse 5’s 9/11 Memorial. Modern donated the anchor bolts to secure the columns and advised on the installation process. The main part of the memorial was completed just in time for the anniversary of 9/11. A special ceremony was held to dedicate the memorial to the 343 FDNY firefighters, and the nearly 3,000 victims of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and Flight 93 who lost their lives on 9/11/2001. The six foot granite pillars representing the Twin Towers stands atop a pentagon-shaped base that’s etched to look like the Pentagon itself. Suspended between the pillars is a piece of steel from the World Trade Center.
